Frequently Asked Questions
When does Adroit accept submissions?
Adroit accepts submissions year-round. The deadline for each edition is February 1 of the year, but the submission links for the next edition should become available as soon as the previous edition's submissions have closed. Contact us if you have trouble submitting.
When will I find out whether or not my piece has been accepted?
Since we are staffed by students, it is difficult to return timely notice of acceptance or decline. The review process begins in late February/early March of each year, and acceptance/decline emails are sent at that time.
Where will I be able to access editions of Adroit ?
Copies are available at the Adroit office, located in 235 Cypress Hall, ABAC Bainbridge Campus. Authors/artists published in an edition receive a complimentary copy by mail. Additional copies available upon request, though supplies may be limited. Copies are also available in all ABAC campus libraries, service area libraries and high schools, at the Firehouse Gallery in Bainbridge, GA, and at a few area businesses. Digital archive copies are coming soon.
I am a local business and would like to feature Adroit in my waiting room; how do I get a copy?
We are happy to provide copies to regional businesses and galleries. Please contact us by email to request copies.
Who can contribute to Adroit?
Adroit accepts submissions from, or pertaining to, the Southwest, GA region. Underage submissions are accepted with parent/guardian permission.
Where do I find Submission Guidelines?
Please follow the link to Submittable on our Submit Page for complete guidelines, or contact us.
How do I submit paintings, multimedia, sculpture or textile works?
All artwork should be submitted by digital image, as a high-quality jpeg file. Please make sure that you capture to beauty of your piece as you would wish it to be published, if selected.
Will my work be edited?
We follow Chicago Manual of Style. Submission gives automatic consent to minor, basic editing for grammar or usage. Your prose or poetry should be carefully edited for errors before submission. No major edits will be made without approval.
Can I join the Adroit team?
ABAC at Bainbridge faculty, staff, and qualifying students are welcome to apply. Please fill out the contact form for information about joining the staff.
Why must I submit my artwork, prose, or poetry without my name on the file?
Selections for the journal are made by blind review to ensure a judicial process. Your name is attached to your work through Submittable.
Who decides what goes into Adroit?
The Adroit Editorial Staff, a volunteer group of ABAC at Bainbridge students responsible for the creation and publication of the journal.
How does Adroit choose its cover art?
Adroit's cover image is selected from among the works of art submitted each year. If you would like your work considered for cover, be sure to submit a high-quality image in portrait orientation.
Are ABAC faculty or staff allowed to submit to Adroit?
Submission is open to all of Southwest Georgia.
If I am not a resident of Southwest Georgia, may I still submit?
Submissions from outside Southwest Georgia that capture or address the region in their content or theme are welcome.
If I have submitted to ABAC's journal Pegasus, may I also submit to Adroit?
Yes. Pegasus and Adroit are separate publications, located on different campuses, and run by different staff. Submission to one journal does not constitute submission to the other.
May I submit the same work to both Pegasus and Adroit at the same time?
Yes. BUT, duplicate submissions should be noted in the cover letter and withdrawn upon acceptance elsewhere. Please see our Submission Guidelines.
If I submit a photo or artwork of someone else, do I have to have their permission?
Permission of a human subject is only necessary if your subject is a minor.
Am I allowed to submit artwork of a copyrighted character?
Unfortunately, copyright laws protect and restrict the artistic reproduction of iconic images, such as Batman, Mickey Mouse, and the like. We cannot accept works of this nature.
Are there content restrictions or requirements?
No. However, the Adroit staff reserves the right to select or reject any work for any reason.
What does Adroit mean?
